"I hate math. I really really do hate math."
The pencil’s upper part had been nibbled, a nasty habit, and the eraser had been used till almost the point of beyond use, and the not so nasty habit was doodling on math work. Her hand moved slowly, moving over the overly thick math book to paper to calculator.
It went in a pattern. Read the math book, ponder, look at paper, write a few numbers do a little math, consult the calculator, growl and repeat until the answer was correct.
Suddenly in a flurry of movement she put down the pencil, opened a tote bag at her feet, and pulled out an iPod. Earphones with the L to the left ear, earphone with the R to the right ear, hold down the center button until it comes on, and scroll to shuffle.
As the mellow tunes of Regina Spektor’s song 20 Years of Snow floated into her head she leaned back a little in the horrible wooden chairs that were most likely made to make one squirm every 5 seconds and complain of a sore butt.
Picking up the pencil this time she went back to the math.
It was strange to see this normally loud girl attempting to finish math she didn’t understand. Normally it was ”Screw it, I hate math!” and out the door she went. But she was trying to get better grade, so she could at least say ”I tried.” and be done with it.
The song was over, and it changed to a different one, Love Today by Mika. Sadly this song was not one she could simply be quiet to.
Her warm eyes darted around the room as she counted the people in there. Not many.
Would they mind it I sing?
To late. Her vocal cords were already vibrating as she hummed the tune, head bobbing as she tried to continue the math work.
Eh who cares? I like this song.
