Maddie looked at the sketch she had just finished as she sat on the counter infront of the classroom windows sideways. She sniffed back tears that she could feel coming on as she looked at the sketch of her skating and her parents watching her in the right top corner and to the left she drew what she could remember of the wreck. She didn't know why she sketched something that made her so sad about not having her parents.
She threw the sketch pad down on the counter not even paying attention to the snapping noise it made as it hit the countertop. She looked out the windows feeling tears fall down her cheeks. She hated that she was letting all these feelings go here, but she couldn't control them anymore. She had been fighting the urge not to for nearly two days since her kid cousing, Jason, had suddenly started to ask questions about his uncle and aunt and they looked through picture albums. Seeing all those memories her dad had captured hurt a lot more now, and she hated it because she didn't want to feel the pain anymore. She sniffed back a few tears as her violet eyes gazed out the window letting the pain go.

Mathis entered the Art room in search of Maddie. As he entered he saw something that nearly broke his heart. He saw the girl who he liked crying. Starring out the window. Mathis walked quickly up to her and hugged her tight. He didn't even ask what was wrong. He wasn't going to pry. He was just going to hug her. He had been though many things in life and he never wanted people to ask about the problem, he just wanted to know they were there. That is what he was showing her, that he was there for her if she wanted to talk.

She hadn't heard him enter or anything. She felt his arms wrap around her and she looked to him and then moved closer to him and laid her head on his shoulder and clung her arms around him. That was all it took for her to let all the pain go too. She let the tears and sobs go and cried while Mathis tried to comfort her as her head lay on his shoulder. She felt horrible that Mathis was seeing her like this. He would've found out sooner or later, but she hated that he was going to find out this way.

Mathis pulled away from her a bit and kissed her lightly on the forehead. He wasn't sure what to say for fear of accidentally saying the wrong thing which did occasionally happen with him. "If you wanna talk about it, I am here," Was all that he could get out. Just that way she would know that the offer stands.

She looked up at him and nodded as she gently try to rid herself of the tears, but they kept falling. Her dark eye make-up had been messed up and smudged and trailing down her cheeks. She looked to the picture of her parents she had painted then back to him. "The reason I'm living with my aunt and kid cousin, and the reason..... the reason I can't skate anymore is because my parent's are gone." She said in a shaky voice looking down at his chest. "All three of us were in a... a drunk driving accident." She said choking back some of the tears. "They... they died, and I survived. Barely, but I did, and I feel so horrible knowing that." She said looking up at him with pain and frustration and even a hint of confusion in those mysteriously violet eyes.

Mathis hugged her tight and kissed at her tears. "Don't ever feel bad for surviving." He said to her, looking her straight in the eyes. "They wouldn't want that." He said grabbing her hand and wrapping his fingers with them.

She choked back a bunch of tears. She shook her head gently looking him in the eyes. "That's not what makes me feel so horrible. They never spent enough time alone. They were always doing things to help with my dreams. Because of my dreams and ambitions they're gone." She said in a shakey looking back to the painting as she wiped at where her make-up was smudged.

"Don't blame yourself either." He said to her trying to fight back his own tears. It made him sad watching her cry. "They loved you, and they wanted you to be happy, I bet they wouldn't have traded in one single moment of anything they did." He didn't know her parents but he felt it that what he said was true.

She looked at him at a loss for words. She softly choked back a few more tears then laid her head against his chest sniffing back a few. "They promised, Mathis, they promised they would always be here for me and now they're not though." She said shakily hiding her face in his chest.

Mathisjustwrapped his arms around her. He didn't know what to say to that one. Finally he just said what it was that came from the heart. "And I am sure that they want to be here for you right now. It wasn't there choice to leave you." He wanted to make her feel better but he knew it was not going to happen right away. The best he could do was be there for her, and that is what he was going to do.

She nodded her head gently in understanding. She could tell he was trying hard to help, and in a way he was. She nuzzled her face against his chest gently to calm herself and hopefully the tears would slowly come to a stop.

Mathis ran his hand up and down her back. He wasn't always the best talker in these situations. He couldn't say that he understood because he had no idea what its like to lose a parent. Though he could imagine. "You want to get out of here or something?" He asked. He was willing to get her away for a while if she wanted to.

She relaxed some at the feel of his hand running over her back. She looked up at him wiping at the smudged make-up. She nodded gently. "I want to, but my make-up looks horrible now." She said gently.

He looked into her eyes. She did have make-up running down her face but it only made her that much more attractive. "Well we can go someplace that isn't very public if you like. The only person that will see you is me." Which he liked. Not the being the only one but being able to see her was great in and of itself.

She gave him a weak smile and nodded. "That's fine to me." She said gently as she turned herself letting her legs fall over the edge of the counter. She didn't exactly want to be in the public eye completely at the moment, but she did want to be with Mathis, who was doing a good job of comforting her.
